Le Mistral Club Picnique et Pétanque Open
Doubles Mélée
04 October 2008

On October 4, we gathered at Greenhill Park in Worcester to enjoy a fine day of Petanque on a beautiful New England Fall day, with sunshine and temperatures in the 60s.  9 teams doubles teams were formed, with shooters and pointers paired randomly.  Our field of players represented a diversity of geography, gender, nationality and age.

2 games were played before lunch, as the doubles teams worked out their strategies and assessed the skills and preferences of their new partners.  The games were competitive yet relaxed for this friendly tournament, and thoughts soon turned to the looming pot luck luncheon.

When we broke for lunch, all were pleasantly surprised to discover and enjoy a fantastic clam chowder cooked on the spot by Tim Cousens.

After lunch, with the late afternoon sun casting long shadows on the terrain, we played two more games, and then the top 2 finishers played for the Gold and Silver, while the 3rd and 4th finishers competed for the Bronze.

The results:
1st Place: Brian Walsh, Raymond Kopoyan
2nd Place: Peter Crowley, Tim Cousens
3rd Place: Philippe Riand, Levon Bogosian
4th Place: Albert Kallanian, Celine Kallanian
